The Kin Pool located in Bowen Park recently underwent a pipe replacement project. The original pool circulation piping had reached the end of its life and needed replacement to continue pool operations.
The pool was built in partnership with the Nanaimo Kinsmen Club in the 1960's and is currently operated by the Nanaimo White Rapids Swim Club. The swim club's season runs from May until September. Public swimming is open on weekends at the beginning of June and daily by late June.
The original asbestos pipes were removed, replaced by new PVC piping which was installed and tested for leaks. The retrofit also saw new grounding cables installed and a new cement pool deck.
