BC Ferries Fares Increase April 1

No April Fool's Joke
Rates Increase April 1, 2012

BC Ferries rates will be increasing this April by 4.15% on all routes across the fleet. This increase was approved last spring in Bill 14, an amendment to the Coastal Ferry Act.

Fare increases are said to be needed due to rising cost of operating and capital expenditures with lower levels of traffic.

On the Nanaimo to Vancouver routes the adult passenger fare will increase from the current rate of $14.25 to $14.85, while the passenger vehicle fare will increase from $47.25 to $49.25. The commercial per foot rate will increase from $5.35 to $5.60.

The Gabriola Island adult fare increases from $9.50 to $9.90 while the passenger vehicle rate increases from $22.60 to $23.55. The commercial per foot rate goes from $2.75 to $2.85.

The Corporation (that's you and I) are currently paying nearly $6,000,000.00 per month to service the debt incurred during recent years.
