First Strategic Plan Meeting Well Attended

First Meeting Full House

The first in a series of public workshops in the 'Your Voice, Our Nanaimo' strategic planning process was well attended at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.

The first half of the workshop asked those in attendance to fill out a questionnaire  to help the facilitators of the plan get some kind of direction from the community. Then topics of interest were solicited from the group which formed the basis for those with similar interests to gather around the table and discuss their topic. At the end of the exercise each group then posted a chart on the wall with a summary of their conclusions/opinions on different matters of importance to the city.

The following are the questions from the questionnaire which you might want to consider and even if you don't attend one of the workshops in person you can submit your opinions to the strategic planning committee via the city of Nanaimo website.

Questions:

1. If you were asked to give a three minute speech to City Council on Nanaimo's POTENTIAL as a city, what would be your key points? What will we be known and respected for in 2025.

2. From your perspective, what are the key characteristics of an excellent municipal corporation?

3. Looking at overall municipal government performance in Nanaimo, are there any areas that require significant attention or improvement from your perspective:

4. What are the most important priority areas that the municipal corporation should focus on over the next three years - the critical few?

5. Do you have any additional advice or comments that will help to optimize the value of this strategic planning initiative?

The second meeting will be held Wednesday, March 14 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Moose Hall in Chase River. The third meeting will be held Thursday March 15 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Oliver Woods Community Centre.
