Community Workshops on City Strategic Plan Begin

Initial opportunities for the community to meet together and offer their thoughts on the City of Nanaimo’s first Corporate Strategic Plan will take place next week. Workshops will be held in three Nanaimo neighborhoods, starting at 7 pm Tuesday, March 13th, at the Conference Centre (downtown), Wednesday, March 14th, at the Moose Hall (in the south end), and Thursday, March 15th at Oliver Woods Community Centre (in the north end). Each meeting is open to all members of the public.

The Strategic Plan’s goal is to set a policy framework to link all existing City plans, and to establish priorities for municipal investments over the 3-5 year term of the plan. Input from residents will make sure the community’s long-term vision is included in planning for the future. According to Mayor John Ruttan, “We want to hear what residents think our priorities should be for moving Nanaimo forward, especially during this Council’s term.”

Titled “Your Voice, Our Nanaimo”, community consultation takes form with these workshops, as well as another series of specialized events later in the month targeting teens, seniors, community groups and businesses. Also planned are interviews with community leaders, community surveys and a blog with detailed information about the process at www.nanaimo.ca
