Nanaimo Quarter Horse Association

American Quarter Horse Association Sanctioned Show
Nanaimo June 16 & 17 At Beban Park
Outdoor Sand Ring At VIEX Fairgrounds

The Nanaimo Quarter Horse Association is hosting an AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association) sanctioned show in Nanaimo this coming weekend.

The show which will attract contestants from all over Vancouver Island, the lower mainland and Washington state will see competitors ranging from 6 years old up to 70+ competing in different classes designed to demonstrate the skills of both horse and rider.

The events start at 8:00 am each day with a different AQHA certified judge, judging horse and riders each day. One judge comes all the way from Alberta and the other from Washington state which gives participants the opportunity to be judged by two different judges which all aids in their standing within the AQHA umbrella.

The local association has been able to solicit support from local businesses which enables them to offer different prize draws which should insure most competitors win a prize of some kind.

One of the highlights of the event will be a barrel race on Saturday night for a grand prize of $1,000 with a portion of the entry fees being added to that prize. After the event there will be a social time seeing everyone treated to pizza and watermelon.

In addition to the Quarter Horse classes, there are also All/Breed open classes for all breeds of horses and ages of riders. This is a great opportunity for 'horsey' people to get together with other 'horsey' people regardless of the breed of their favorite steed.

The event is expected to bring at least 70 entrants to the Harbour City for the two days. The public is most welcome to come out and watch what should be an interesting two days, especially for city kids who perhaps have never really seen a horse and rider except on television.
