Nanaimo RCMP Uncover Counterfeiting Ring

Stolen ID, Explosives and Weapons Found

On Thursday, June 05, at approximately 3:00pm, Nanaimo RCMP Property Crime members, executed a search warrant on a YellowPoint Rd residence and uncovered a sawed off shotgun, home made pipe bomb and a vast array of stolen personal identification and counterfeiting equipment. Materials used in the production of explosive devices were also seized. One male adult was located inside the residence and was taken into custody without incident. Charges are expected to be laid in the near future on at least two other individuals associated to the residence.

Property Crime members reported counterfeiting equipment located in the residence, was capable of producing credit cards ,personal banking cards, passports and firearm acquisition certificates.

The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit(EDU) was called to the scene and safely detonated the explosive device at an undisclosed location later that same evening.

Investigators will be consulting with the RCMP Commercial Crime Section and are asking the public not to call their office with general inquiries on stolen identification. A release of information will be made at a later date but accordingly the investigation is quite complex and will take some time before the stolen items are cataloged.
