Nanaimo School Funding Could Be Lost

School Trustee Ron Dale
Fears Nanaimo Will Lose
Provincial Funding

It is reported in the local daily that Ron Dale put forward a successful motion calling for the school board to reinstate the previously approved plan for renewing Nanaimo schools.

The newly elected board rejected the previously adopted plan which had been accepted by the Provincial Minstry of Education. During the recent election they promised to look at alternatives to the previously approved plan which they and a vocal citizen group are opposed to.

They have however, not put forward anything even remotely approaching a plan and the education minister has made it clear there will be no provincial funding without a properly studied and researched plan in place.

This new school board has now put in jeopardy a plan that so far has taken 11 years to put together, and had the blessing of the provincial ministry which would have provided funding for the $87 million renewal plan.

If you agree with Ron that this board needs to reinstate the already approved plan, then let the trustees know how you feel.

I think they were probably elected by the typical vocal minority while the apathetic majority slept through the last election. If you don't like what you see happening, then let them know. They still should respond to public support and they clearly have put forward no viable alternatives.

If their decision is not changed, Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District will look pretty much the same in another ten years.
