Bicycle Fatality On Seawall

Glen Rasmussen Found In Water

The body of a 45 year old male was discovered late Sunday afternoon in the water off the seawall in Nanaimo in what appears to be a bicycle fatality.

Witnesses reported seeing a body floating in the waters near the Petro Canada pier in the 800 block of Stewart Ave, shortly before 4:00 PM Sunday. Officers attended and retrieved the body of Glen RASMUSSEN 45, approximately five feet out in the waters surrounding the seawall. Next to his body was a mens Huffy mountain bike.

“It appears for unknown reasons, that something caused RASMUSSEN and his bike to leave the bike path along the seawall and end up in the nearby waters. RASMUSSEN was known to ride a similar style bike and he was not wearing a bike helmet at the time of his death” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.

Nanaimo RCMP along with the BC Coroners Service are investigating this incident. Anyone with information on this accident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
