Vancouver Island Ranked #6 Readers Choice Awards
Conde Nast Traveler Magazine

None less that the Conde Nast Traveler Magazine recognizes Vancouver Island as the 6th Best Island in the World! That is serious bragging rights coming from such a well known authority on travel.

This magazine claims a print audience of 3.1 million and an online audience of 2.1 million each month and has been in the business since 1987 offering travel advice from all over the world. Vancouver Island was chosen by their readers and ranks #6 among 10 top choices. Being edged out by Bora Bora and Maui isn't too hard to take and the fact we are included with such islands is something we should all be proud of.

The copy accompanying the above picture of our Island paradise says:

Readers implore visitors of this Canadian Island to stay as long as possible, since there are simply “so many places to visit and explore.”  “Extremely safe,” and “impossibly clean,” Vancouver Island includes the city of Victoria, British Columbia’s capital, which offers “cute shops” and “endless great dining.”  Nearby are the verdant Butchart Gardens, “an absolute must,” while further north lies Tofino, “a rain forest with beautiful and exotic species of plants,” ideal for “nature lovers.”

Comment: notice the 'type' of boats they chose to represent the flavour of Vancouver Island? Not a 60 foot fibreglass yacht in sight!

  1. The choice of photo says so much about the importance of our harbours in maintaining a unique Island identity. Powerful stuff really!

  2. ...but it seems there is nothing more we can do to stop this devitalization of our dear little harbour. Is there?
