BC Government Pays $40/day To Parents

$40/day Per Child
Covers Daycare Costs

Parents of children under the age of 13 years will receive $40/day per child if the provincial teachers' strike is not resolved by the start of classes in September.

Finance Minister Mike de Jong says the $12 million per day will be coming from the money saved by not having to pay teachers during the strike. The money can be claimed online through a website run by the provincial government and parents may use the money as they see fit.

Those funds could be used to hire a tutor, pay for daycare or pay for other educational opportunities at the parents discretion.

The announcement was met with condemnation by BCTF president Jim Iker.
