Hampshire County Youth Choir In Nanaimo

The Hampshire County Youth Choir is delighted to be returning to Vancouver Island for the fourth time. The choir has become increasingly successful over the past fifteen years and is now recognised as one of the leading youth choirs in the country.

Open to all singers from the age of 13 to19, who live, or are in full-time or part-time education, in Hampshire, the choir is proud that it has no formal audition process for selection of members. Much of the music performed a cappella, so that voices can be more carefully monitored and developed.

The Hampshire Youth Choir has enjoyed performing in a range of wonderful venues in England, Canada, Italy, Monaco and Denmark. On two occasions, the choir has been a major contributor to Hampshire’s presentations in the Last Night of the Schools’ Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. In Hampshire, the choir regularly perform at the Cathedral and the Great Hall in Winchester.

The choir continues to meet the challenge of performing in a great number of parish churches dotted around our beautiful county, and beyond. The choir has taken great pleasure in welcoming singers from other parts of the world and has hosted performances with visiting choirs from Canada, America, Italy, Guernsey, Poland and Lithuania, as well as the Morriston Orpheus and Treorchy Male Voice Choirs from South Wales.

 Highlights in recent years have include concerts with Dame Emma Kirkby, International concert pianist Di Xiao, and with Gina Beck, an ex member of the choir, who spent two years playing the roles of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera and Glinda in Wicked, both in the West End. In recent months the choir has performed with the Her Majesty’s Royal Marines and the BBC singers. We are delighted to have been asked to perform with the BBC again in 2015.
