Food Bank Use Up 7%

Food Bank Needs Help
The current economic situation in Nanaimo is resulting in a 7% increase in need at the Loaves and Fishes Food Bank while at the same time donations are off by 60%. The summer is usually a slower time for donations with people away on holidays etc. which has meant dipping into cash reserves to make sure the people they are helping still get fed.
The Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank currently helps 1100 adults and 500 children weekly, with the most basic of life -- food. They have six locations in the city serving Nanaimo's hungry. The main location is at 1009 Farquhar Street with different programs operating out of Christ Community Church, St. Andrews, St. Pauls, Brechin United and St. Philips.
If you are able to help with a donation of cash or food you can stop by 1009 Farquhar Street, or call 250-754-8347 or visit their website HERE.You can donate directly online HERE.
