VIU Bans Bottled Water

Ban the Bottle By June 2012

Vancouver Island University students have been greatly reducing the number of bottles of water they have purchased with total sales down by 75% since 2007 when awareness-raising efforts were started.

Now they hope to be the first BC post secondary institution to ban bottled water completely by June of 2012. Last year 18,000 bottles of water were purchased on campus so there still will be the need for more transition as they are weaned off the bottle.

With the quality of the water coming from Nanaimo taps, I have often wondered why people pay more for water than they do for gasoline. I guess with the right marketing strategy you can sell anything.
