Donna Allen Grandstanding??

Threatens To Force $100,000 By-election
In an article in the local daily it is reported, recently elected school board trustee Donna Allen is threatening to force a by-election if her demands are not met.

Allen is reported as insisting that all school board candidates undergo a criminal record check. Saying she will not allow herself to be sworn in to fill the office she was elected to if her demands are ignored would force a by-election which will cost taxpayers a reported $100,000.00.

Considering the length of time Ms. Allen has been on the school board, if this were a serious concern of her's, it seems a peculiar time to raise the issue. She also seems to have a funny way of looking at how things should be done, suggesting that the demands and threats of a single person should cause the Province to immediately re-write legislation, simply because she is unhappy with the outcome of the recent election.

The story does not make it clear if Ms Allen would insist that any person with a criminal record should then be disqualified from community service.

It might be interesting if the bill for a by-election could be sent to Ms Allen as she must have been aware of her position before allowing her name to stand and is now simply engaging in infantile, petty politics of the worse kind. Perhaps the district might be well served, if Ms Allen were simply bid adieu.

Since Ms Allen has basically said she is withdrawing from the process before taking office, there should be no need for a by-election and the candidate with the next most votes in the recent election should be declared the winner.

  1. Grandstanding is a great word for it! She's probably unhappy that her husband lost. I agree that she had very opportunity to make her concerns known before now. Those of us who know Bill Bard overlooked his "conviction" but instead looked at what he could bring to the plate! And where is this $100,000 going to come from for a byelection!

  2. She's upset that Bill Bard got in while he has a criminal record for recently growing pot. No one listened to her when she was trying to raise this issue during the election. Kudos to her for standing strong on this crap.

  3. What a waste of money! And will the school board have to pay for this? Or is it elections BC? But really if it was public knowledge during the election and the electorate didn't care what is her problem? Sometimes democracy doesn't go the way you want it to. Stomping your feed and wasting money is far worse than growing a drug that should be legal imo.

  4. I don't think Bill Bard should be allowed to get elected if he has a record of drug charges, no other person working with kids is allowed to have that kind of record. However, it is totally irresponsible of Donna Allen to not take the oath of office. She ran for the position and should have had every intention of accepting the office even if her husband didn't get elected too.

  5. In my opinion, if this issue was so important to Donna Allen why didn't she withdraw prior to running? Was she waiting on whether Bill Bard got in or not? The whole pot politics are annoying and redundant when it really comes down to who can do that job of school trustee - if it was a criminal record for child abuse I could see the issue but growing a plant (yes it's a plant) ..come on now, how about the school trustees focus on their jobs and not on their backgrounds.
