While not all sand sculptures were Olympics related, most were, in this popular Parksville event. With $30,000 prize money up for grabs, competitors come from far and wide to this popular tourist community.
My personal favourite was the humorous 'Thin Ice' entry which takes a bit of study to take in all of the subtle elements.
The first place winner was worthy of it's honor being quite a work of art demonstrating significant skill on the part of the sculptors.
The sand sculptures will be on display until the end of the month and are worth the short drive to visit our friends to the north in Parksville.
