Telescope Buying Tips

The next meeting of the Nanaimo Astronomy Society will take place on Nov. 25, 2010 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Paine Horticultural Centre at 2324 East Wellington Road Nanaimo.

Come out to our monthly meeting to learn more about the night sky and meet and chat with other star gazers and astro photographers.

Guests and beginners welcome - there is no charge to attend.

Our guest speaker for this session is Garland Coulson who will be presenting "Telescope Buying Tips."

Garland will cover buying a telescope from a beginner's perspective, including how to choose the right telescope for you or your family, understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the various types of telescopes, reputable sources for telescopes and some suggested telescopes for different size budgets.

Garland is a professional speaker on Internet marketing who has complied an astonishing number of telescope buying mistakes since starting astronomy as a hobby, including managing to buy one of only two telescopes mentioned as REALLY bad in "The BackYard Astronomer" book.

In this humorous and fact filled presentation, Garland will share his mistakes so you can avoid them and will show you how he eventually found the right equipment path for his enjoyment of star gazing.
