Eyesore Finally Gone

MV Sun Sea Not In Nanaimo

The rusty ship that carried nearly 500 Tamil refugees to Victoria two years ago has finally been towed from Newcastle Channel where it has been stored at Nanaimo Shipyards. While the storage fee is a welcome return of some of our Federal tax dollars, the ship itself did nothing to enhance Newcastle Channel.

It now resides at a Government facility on Annacis Island. Whether the Canadian taxpayer will ever recover the cost this ship has become is debatable. Perhaps in future we should just use such vessels for torpedo target practice giving our submarine fleet some real experience.
