Teen Dies In Longboarding Accident in Cedar

An Island teenager has been killed in a traffic accident while riding a longboard in Cedar.

RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien says the 17-year-old was riding in the southbound lane of the road directly in front of Cedar Secondary School, when he was hit by a northbound flat deck truck.

The teen was rushed to hospital in Nanaimo but was pronounced dead.

O’Brien says the collision happened on  Monday evening on a poorly-lit stretch of road and the teenager was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing.

Officers say alcohol and speed are not considered factors, but an investigation is continuing.

The name of the teen has not been released.

Note: for those not familiar a longboard is similar to a skateboard, but as the name implies it is simply bigger in length and width.
