Wall Street Protest In Nanaimo

Peaceful Rally Saturday Oct. 15 Diana Krall Plaza

The 'Occupy Wall Street' movement is making inroads in Canada and will have a presence in Nanaimo this Saturday starting at 11:00 am in Diana Krall Plaza.

According to wikipedia the movement was actually started by a Canadian activist group to protest social and economic inequality, corporate greed and the influence of corporate money and lobbyists on government, among other concerns.

It will be interesting to see if the local group can draw any parallels with Wall Street and Wallace Street in Nanaimo. Do special influence groups lobby local politicians to the detriment of the majority of local citizens? Do unions and business back their candidates to ensure they will be treated well when it comes time to carving up the taxpayer funded pie?
