"Boomer" Busts Bad Guy!

Police Dog Boomer
Tracks Sex Assault Suspect

A 33 year old male is in police custody after an alleged sexual assault of a 28 year old Nanaimo sex trade worker.

Police received a 9-1-1 call from the victim at 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16th. The victim said she had been robbed at knife point and sexually assaulted by a man on Shoreline Drive, located in the south end of Nanaimo. She provided a detailed description of her attacker and police responded.

Officers flooded the surrounding area, setting up a containment area, allowing RCMP Police Dog Services to track the suspect.

Shortly before 11:00 p.m., Cst. Wurzinger and Police Service dog Boomer located the male hiding under some debris a short distance from where the alleged attack took place. A weapon allegedly used in the attack was also located.

The male was arrested without incident for Robbery and Sexual Assault, and was transported to the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment. The woman suffered several minor cuts and bruises sustained while attempting to flee her attacker.
B.C. Ambulance Service Paramedics attended and treated her injuries which did not require hospitalization.  Nanaimo Victim Services were contacted and are supporting the victim.  This investigation is ongoing.

The 33 year old male, of no fixed address, was transported to Nanaimo Provincial Court this morning, where he is expected to appear before a Judge later today.
