Alzheimer Coping Strategies

Help Caring For Someone With Dementia

Dementia can dramatically affect family caregivers as well as the person diagnosed with the disease, as it often brings about major changes in behaviour and communication.

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is hosting a free, one-day workshop in Nanaimo in September, providing practical coping strategies to those caring for someone with dementia.

Topics include: understanding Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias; effective and creative ways of facilitating communication with a person with dementia; problem solving for responsive behaviours; and self-care for the caregiver.

The workshop takes place Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Nanaimo Alzheimer Society Resource Centre, 200-1585 Bowen Rd.

Pre-registration is required by calling 250-734-4170 or e-mailing jhope@alzheimerbc.org.
