Discs will be flying at Bowen Park on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th, 2009, when Nanaimo Disc Golf Association hosts the BC Provincial Disc Golf Tournament.
“We’re excited about hosting the provincials’ this year in Nanaimo and we look forward to showcasing the new improvements to the disc golf course in Bowen Park,” says Ryan Hudson event organizer. The City of Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Culture and volunteers from Nanaimo Golf Association recently completed a variety of upgrades to the disc golf course in Bowen Park. Improvements include 36 new concrete tee pads, new maps and signage. The volunteers from Nanaimo Disc Golf Association volunteered more than 430 hours on the project.
Approximately 100-150 players are expected to register for the tournament this year. The best disc golf players from around the province will be in attendance.
The disc golf course at Bowen Park will be closed to the general public on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th, 2009 to accommodate the disc golf tournament. “We encourage the community to come out and watch the event,” explained Dan Walker of Nanaimo Disc Golf Association.
