RCMP Investigate Incident At Randerson Ridge Elementary School

 Randerson Ridge Elementary
Suspicious Incidents

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating two recent incidents at a local elementary school involving students being approached on school grounds by an older teenager.

Both incidents occurred at Randerson Ridge Elementary, located on Nelson Rd off Turner Rd. Both incidents were reported by the same Grade Four student who said she saw an older teenager walk onto school grounds during recess and lunch on the 14 th and 15th, respectively. Recess is at 11:15 AM and lunch at 1:00 PM . The male approached several Grade One students who were playing nearby and asked them to sniff the contents of a brown paper bag he was holding. The Grade Four student then ran into the school and reported it to a teacher.

The girl said the male then left on foot towards a path that runs adjacent to the school and was seen getting into a small black compact car and driving away. The male is described as being 15-16 years of age , dark skinned, possibly First Nations wearing a black hoodie pulled down low over his forehead. Police were notified and patrols made of the area but no one matching that description was located.

“ Our members have investigated both allegations and have spoken with numerous students and school officials but cannot corroborate these two incidents. Having said that , our officers and staff at the school would rather err on the side of caution and are asking parents to once again take this opportunity to discuss personal safety with their children while on and off school grounds” said Constable Gary O’Brien ,media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.

Anyone with information on these two incidents is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-2222-8477(TIPS) or go online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com
