Pacifica Crane Comes Down
After being a part of the Nanaimo skyline for almost four years the giant 75 metre crane has been taken down at Pacifica Condominiums on Front Street. The above photo was taken first thing Saturday morning.
The project on the site of the old Malaspina Hotel is hoped to be completed by the end of the month and is being heralded as perhaps the biggest renovation job in Canadian history.
Whether it would have been cheaper to just bulldoze the old hotel and start from scratch is just speculation on my part.
The upscale 20 storey, $50 million project will bring 137 new residences to downtown Nanaimo.
