Domestic Violence In Nanaimo

Domestic Violence
Dedicated Officer

Nanaimo RCMP Detachment will soon have a police officer working solely on the investigation of domestic violence.

This newly created position will soon be staffed and will work closely with Victim Service workers, the Ministry for Children and Family Development, Crown Counsel and other social service agencies to ensure the safety of Nanaimo families. The new role will see a police officer assigned to domestic violence cases working in a coordinated, focused and more effective way. This approach also aims to improve the police response in the area of risk assessment and safety planning for victims of violence.

“Domestic violence is a devastating situation to families, and it occasionally has tragic consequences. This new dedicated position in our Detachment is a real break through for our community and will most certainly result in positive changes in the handling of domestic violence in our city.” said Cst Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for Nanaimo RCMP Detachment.
