Nanaimo E&N Train Station Rehabilitation Project Goes Ahead

Reconstruction Begins On
Nanaimo Train Station

With still $118,000 needed for completion, the first phase of the Nanaimo train station reconstruction begins today.

The building has been sitting in it's present state since 2006 when it fell victim to arson. The first phase of reconstruction will see the foundation, exterior and roof replaced.

Of the $1.3million needed for the project, $896,000 has come from fire insurance Via Rail had on the building. The remaining funds have come from many local firms and several fundraising projects.

A celebrity football game is planned for May 29 at Caledonia Park in memory of Blair McKinnon the lead fundraiser for the project who passed away April 11.
