Nanaimo News Notes April 14, 2011

Concerns: Quarterway resident Lance Geselbracht has expressed concerns that the wet housing project on Bowen Road will seriously devalue his 13 unit rental condo property on  Pryde Ave. He apparently has put considerable time and money into restoring the property for the purpose of attracting quality residents. The proximity to the wet housing is seen as something he feels will detract from his property.
Women's Lacrosse: The Nanaimo Timbermen Senior Women's Lacrosse Club has fielded a team for the B.C. Women's Lacrosse League this month. Interested women over the age of 21 are invited to attend an open house tonight at 7:00 pm for a meeting followed by practice. Bring your own equipment. Tatoo Artist: local tattoo artist Steve Moore will be attending the West Coast Tattoo Culture Show in Vancouver at the PNE forum from April 15 - 17.  Moore is well known in the world of tattoo artists whose customers are selected by him based partially on whether the subject inspires him, they are also willing to waits months to get the tatoo done and endure 25 - 40 hours at $180 an hour to have their piece of art applied to their body, in what is not an un-painful process. Art Auction: is raising money for Bookfest, the annual children's literacy event in downtown Nanaimo. Original artwork from children's book illustrators from across the country have contributed the original artwork which will be on display at the Barton and Leier Gallery on Chapel Street from April 28 til May 6. Glass Artists Show: 14 artists from across the Island and the Gulf Islands will be hosting the first Island Glass Art spring show and sale April 23 at the VICC. A wide variety of work will be on display in various types of glass and styles including stained, fused, kiln cast, window and door panels, glass sculpture and much more. The show will be from 11:00am to 5:00 pm.
