City Manager Al Kenning Retires


City Manager to Retire

Mr. Al Kenning, City Manager, has announced his intention to retire after a 35 year career of public service.

After careful deliberation and review of its options City Council has decided to promote from within. Mr. Ted Swabey has been appointed City Manager to replace Mr. Kenning effective 2013-SEPT-03. Mr. Swabey is currently the City’s General Manager of Community Safety and Development. Mr. Swabey is well qualified for the position, having spent 23 years working for the City in progressively more responsible positions. “Ted has always performed his responsibilities exceptionally well and is very well regarded within the organization and within the community,” said Mayor John Ruttan.

Council believes that promotion of a proven performer from within the organization is in the best interests of the organization and the community it serves at this time.
Mr. Swabey will be paid a starting salary of $209,270 per year.

Mr. Kenning has been employed by the City since 1987 and looks forward to his upcoming retirement.

“Al has had an exemplary public service career and as City Manager has provided exceptional leadership for Council and staff”, said Mayor Ruttan. “It has been a privilege to have worked with Al, and on behalf of Council we wish him all the best in retirement
