Members of the public wishing to participate in, or seek information about, the 30 Day consultation period regarding the Colliery Dams are invited to submit ideas on options and supporting information to collieryfacilitator@shaw.ca where they will be received by Katherine Gordon, the facilitator appointed by the City of Nanaimo and the Snuneymuxw First Nation to work with the community to bring resolution to the dialogue that has taken place surrounding the future of the Colliery Dams.

A public meeting is scheduled to be held July 25 –further details to follow.

Follows is the daily update from Chief Doug White:
Day 4 update: Glad to see facilitator hard at work. SFN staff had good discussion with Tom Hickey at city. Thanks Tom. SFN Staff also having a good discussion with Bill Sims from City and Chris Grapel from Klohn. Understand that applications to the Province for dam removal and related archeology work are on hold because of 30 day process. Encouraging public to bring forward solid technical information and ideas to facilitator about how to mitigate risk. A public meeting being organized for evening of July 25. Facilitator will be present. Details forthcoming. I had the opportunity throughout the day to brief Michelle Stilwell and Doug Routley, two of our MLAs, on progress. I also spoke late in the day with Minister Thomson of FLNRO and he agreed to instruct his staff to be engaged and provide technical assistance to our review process. Very good call with him.
