The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating the discovery of an adult male found in
the water at Stone's Marina, located at 1690 Stewart Ave, Nanaimo.
At approximately 8:30 am on Saturday January 23rd, two men out for an
early morning walk saw the body and called 911. BC Paramedics, City of Nanaimo
fire crews and the Nanaimo RCMP responded. The male was pronounced dead at the
scene. BC Coroner's Service was then notified and attended to the
scene.
The Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit is responsible for the investigation
and is being assisted by the Coroner's Service. Positive identification has been
made of the deceased; however his next of kin have not been notified. Until such
time notification has been made, his name will not be
released.
"While the investigation is in the preliminary stages, his death does not
appear suspicious. Investigators are attempting to determine how the deceased
entered the water and establish a time line of his movements prior to the
discovery of his body", said Constable Gary O'Brien of the Nanaimo
RCMP.

One
male has been remanded into custody for a violent assault and another sentenced
