Report of shots fired leads to heavy police
presence
An
adult male who decided to set off some fireworks in the middle of the day did
not get the response he expected when numerous police officers responded to a
report of possible shots fired.
Shortly
before 1 pm on Monday January 25, Nanaimo RCMP was alerted by a
nearby resident who reported hearing what sounded like rapid gun fire, in the
south end of Haliburton St. The caller was adamant the sound did not come from a
vehicle backfiring or heavy equipment. Given the time of the day and persistence
of the caller, numerous police officers attended.
Fortunately
the situation was resolved and the person responsible for setting off the
fireworks was located. The male showed the officers a box of 16 spent fireworks
called Redneck Ruckus. The investigator then spent a few minutes with him
pointing out the consequences his actions.
