Via Rail Dayliner sits about 300 metres from scene of crash
Bus transports Dayliner passengers for the rest of their tripTwo passengers in a late model Dodge Spirit are dead and one is in serious condition following a collision with the Dayliner at the Dorman Rd. crossing.
Witnesses report the lights and bells were working on the level crossing when the vehicle travelling south on the highway turned onto Dorman Rd. and into the path of the oncoming train.
The vehicle was pushed along the track before coming to a stop. There were no reported injuries on the train which offloaded passengers onto a Greyhound bus to continue their journey home.
The accident occured at about 3:00pm under cloudy skies with some rain falling.

The names of the deceased from the fatal collision with a Southern Railway dayliner yesterday afternoon have been released.
Rosane Miline PERREAULT, age 44 the driver and her commonlaw partner Lyle Brian HALL age 49, died from injuries sustained in the collision .Their 14 year old son was critically injured and was airlifted to BC Childrens hospital late last night.
“It was originally reported the injured party in the vehicle was a female in her mid 20's. That information was incorrect and we sincerely apologize to the family for any confusion it may have caused said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP. The investigation is continuing and updates will be provided in due course”, said O’Brien.
One of the surviving family members notified last night attends a local high school and that school has been advised of the tragedy. Grief counseling services have been arranged through the School District where necessary, for students impacted at the school.
” In addition to support offered by the School District ,anyone who may have witnessed this incident is encouraged to contact the RCMP Victim Services at 250-755-3146 for assistance and referrals if necessary. These incidents impact everyone differently, so please call if you need support in any way” said O’Brien.
hi my name is ross j and i was a passenger on the south bound via rail dayliner the day it hit that car in domon road in naniamo 2 years ago. i was coming home from a vacation in courtney with my mom and i was seated at the front end when it felt like we hit something HARD but it wasn't until after the conductor said we would be there for a few hours cause we had hit a car in the road crossing that i had great concern for the people whom we hit wondering and hoping they were OK.
ReplyDeleteI am autistic and when i heard we hit and killed two people i had a severe meltdown which is like a emotional overload of tears and concern and if you have watched youtube on this subject you will see that there is an ANEWSVANCOUVERISLAND video and the person being guided offthe train with an RCMP officer and a paramedic and tall with red hair was me.
If anyone knows the condition of the 14 year old survivor I send him my condolences and if I can help I with anything I would very much like to.
