Nanaimo Civic Election Signs

Springing Up Like Mushrooms After The Rain

Now that Halloween is out of the way, election campaigners are busily scurrying about here and there vying for the most advantageous place to install their candidates sign.

High traffic intersections are always a popular spot and in spite of what Councillors have said about their opposition to commercial signs, especially of the LED variety in locations that would distract drivers and perhaps cause accidents ......... well those arguments are suspended during THEIR time to use signage. Can you say 'what's good for the Goose isn't always good for the Gander'.

All those long winded discussions and debates about the merits of signage that would bring about all manner of 'visual pollution', seem to be magically forgotten in the race to get elected.

It is my sincere hope that the size and colour of a candidates sign is NOT the reason someone votes for them on Nov. 19th. If the only reason for putting an X beside someone's name on the ballot is because you liked their sign, do the rest of Nanaimo a favour and DON'T VOTE!

  1. Yes, Jim, you are not the only citizen, who has noticed that: "All those long winded discussions and debates about the merits of signage that would bring about all manner of 'visual pollution', seem to be magically forgotten in the race to get elected."

On that point, I find it quite pathetic, that some of them appear to not even be AWARE of their own hypocrisy!

  2. A candidate, who decided not to use standard election signs, but instead use posters, has announced that she has,in the last few days, made financial contributions to the Haven Society, the 7-10 Club and Loaves & Fishes. I agree with her noble idea of not littering the landscape with candidates’ signs. However, isn’t there something wrong with the optics of this scenario? Why is the candidate not making said donations to these organizations AFTER the election campaign is over?
