Unless New Buyer Found
It was announced today that the Victoria television station which has served Vancouver Island for over 50 years will be closed August 31, unless a new buyer comes forward.
The owners of the station Canwest Global say the station simply is not viable and have been unable to find a suitable buyer to take over the station.
The closure will affect over 40 employees who work to produce the local programing Islanders have come to rely upon.
Editor's Comment: Perhaps the Phoenix can rise from the ashes and a newer, leaner station can come out of all this, as Victoria and Vancouver Island should be able to support a local television station.
