Colliery Dam Park

A Great Spot To Cool Off
On A Hot Summer Afternoon

This park has been making a bit of news of late, and not because of it's cool and refreshing clear water.

The City is planning on putting a waterline through an area of this park which is reportedly going to remove 22 trees, which will be replanted when the water main has been put through.

Some 'activist' served notice to council that his group intends to oppose the route through the park, thinking it is better for Nanaimo taxpayers to fork out another $450,000 to use an alternate route.

Removing and replanting 22 trees hardly seems like an environmental disaster and when City Council actually takes a stand to save taxpayers dollars, that is a red letter day indeed!

The above picture was taken yesterday afternoon and is was amazing to me how few people were actually using the Park. Westwood Lake on the other hand was busy, busy, busy!
