Nanaimo Harbour Ferry

Crew Outnumbers Passengers
On This Trip

I stopped down at Maffeo Sutton Park Sunday afternoon to see how many people were enjoying their $1.5 million improvement. It was about mid afternoon and while there were plenty of people around there was no difficulty finding parking even though available parking is currently less than it used to be.

While there I wandered over to the dock where the Nanaimo Harbour Ferry ties up to see how busy they were on a lovely Sunday afternoon. As the picture shows on this particular run the crew seems to outnumber passengers.

I haven't heard any more about steps being taken to help alleviate some of the problems the Harbour Ferry has encountered this year with the changes to Spirit Square causing access problems for their customers needing to pack camping gear to the ferry to go over to Newcastle Island.

It seems that vehicle access to the dock was something overlooked in the planning of the Spirit Square improvements, which has caused a certain amount of grief for the operator of the famous 'Pickle Boats'. It is hoped they solve the problem as it would be a shame to loose this popular attraction downtown.
