So far a total of five people have declared they will seek the vacant seat on city council to be filled in the By Election on March 26.
Two familiar names from the last election will be running, Gord Fuller and Ted Greves have declared as well as newcomers Bill McKay and Brian Fillmore and Brad Knight are taking a run at civic politics.
'Throwing Your Hat In The Ring'
Has commonly come to mean announcing you will participate in an election or competition of some kind but has it origins in the world of boxing apparently. It is first noted in 1820 when it was common for anyone wishing to challenge a boxer in the ring, would have to throw their hat in to demonstrate their intentions, as being heard over the crowd was impossible.
