Crime Stoppers Shreds ID Theft in Nanaimo

Shredding Truck At Save on Foods Terminal Park
 Jan. 26, 2013 -10:00 am - 4:00 pm

On Saturday January 26th from 10 AM to 4 PM the Nanaimo and Ladysmith Crime Stoppers program is joining forces with Save On Foods and Island Document Storage and Shredding(IDSS) to address the issue of identity theft.

Throughout the day in the parking lot of Save on Foods, Terminal Park Mall, a truck from Iron Mountain shredding will be on hand to shred documents. The shredding is by donation and all proceeds go towards the local Crime Stoppers program. Save On Foods will also be hosting a BBQ with volunteers from the local Crime Stoppers program working the grill.

Identity theft techniques range from dumpster diving to mail theft and more elaborate schemes. Victims of identity theft can experience significant financial loss and difficulty obtaining credit or restoring their good name. Identity thieves are looking for information such as full name and address, date of birth, social insurance numbers, mother’s maiden name, driver’s license, credit card information, bank account numbers, signature and passport numbers.

If you have any of this information lying around your home or in recycling bags your identity is at risk of being compromised. Please find the time on Saturday January 26th to come down to Save On Foods and shred those documents. You will not only be doing your part to prevent identity theft but you will also be supporting a great cause,  said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
