Krall Plaza Gets Spiffy Biffy

Council Approves $100,000.00 Bathroom
And It's Only A Single 'Holer'!

If you have some fear that city council might deprive you the privilege of paying more taxes this year, you will be pleased to know that they have once again been busy at work thinking up more creative ways to spend your tax dollars.

The latest example of carefree spending involves the approval to put in a 60 square foot single stall toilet in Diana Krall Plaza for the low, low price of only $100,000. In case you wonder, that works out to only $1666.00 per square foot. It certainly makes the new city annex look like a bargain!

City Council may wring their hands, stroke their beards (sorry ladies) and in soft reassuring voices tell you they will do all in their power to hold the line on taxes, but I don't think they really mean it.

It seems obvious that Mr. Wells message earlier about the 'pot' not being limitless was a message that went right over council's head.

Councilor McKay was the only member of council to oppose this rather lavish sounding expenditure.

  1. I think it's a great idea! There are national awards for the best restroom on Canada - Victoria just won. It brings character, never mind convenience, and a sense of hospitality to a city.

I don't know if it's overprices or not and it does seem a bit large, but conceptually, I'm behind it. - Kait Burgan

  3. Unless the national award pays money, and a lot of it, I really question the decision making powers of our city council. Seriously, who will be using the bathroom? Many of the shops will allow shoppers to use their bathrooms, the restaurants have them... oh perhaps we are making it more comfortable for the people who hang out downtown without contributing... oh well... then by all means let's give them a $100,000 bathroom.. I for one would love my taxes to go up AGAIN. Way to go Councillor McKay for being the only one thinking this through

  4. There are facilities that already exist for that center. Why on earth would anyone pay 100,000 for a one stall rest room? Conceptually I am behind it!??? Something tells me you haven't thought this through. Consider that 100,000 is half a home!!! 10 years of rent at 1000 a month. 5 new vehicles. For ONE bathroom? This is not anything I could stand behind. Downtown needs people geared toward enhancing the downtown core. Not making a pretty corporate bathroom stall!!!! I am beyond upset with choices like this. When will people learn??

  6. Shocked really shocked that a one room bathroom costs HOW MUCH? I am sure if you asked my Brother N Law he would have gladly made a unisex toilet stall for 1/8 the cost and still made money! Last time I checked toilets at costco were 99.00! How about take the 100K and put it to better use
