Employee Takeover of Harmac Mill Unlikely

EMPLOYEES HAVE ONE MORE WEEK

It is reported in the local daily that a BC Supreme Court judge has ordered the immediate shutdown of Harmac Pulp Mill.

It is said the employees offer to buy the idle mill was considered insufficient. The judge did however grant the employee group one more week to come up with a better offer.

Apparently there are four other groups interested in the mill and it's property for a variety of uses ranging from bioenergy production to using the mills equipment in other industries.

You can never say never and it ain't over until the fat lady sings, but it is not looking good for the employee group and it looks like Nanaimo will loose a significant payroll and base for taxes.
