Things are Hot and Dry So Use Common Sense

Slash fire Near Ladysmith Finally Out

It would appear that 'not too smart' campers are likely responsible for the fire near Ladysmith that kept crews busy over the weekend.

Lawn chairs, beer cans and the evidence of two campfires were seen near where the fire started. The fire was spotted about 10:30 am Saturday and was not under control until nearly midnight.

Abbotsford air tankers dumped fire retardant while helicopters dumped water on the blaze which covered about one and a half hectares and produced flames as high as 35 feet.

This is a fire which was completely preventable and people in the Nanaimo and Central Vancouver Island area are urged to use common sense and extreme caution during this hot dry spell.
