Tagger Identified - Facing Charges
Another tagger has been identified and faces several Mischief charges after a search of his residence was carried out by officers with the Nanaimo RCMP Crime Reduction Unit(CRU) .
A 23 year old male whose tags were appearing in the central area of Nanaimo and in downtown Nanaimo faces four charges of Mischief after his home, located in the 500 block of St George Crescent, was searched on September 3rd.
“CRU have identified this male as being amongst several who are actively involved in tagging. It should also be noted these incidents are not treated as a victimless crime. Our members will aggressively go after those responsible and will lay charges when appropriate” said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP. “We also work closely with City of Nanaimo officials and civil charges could also be pursued which could cost the perpetrator $1000's of dollars"said O’Brien.
If you see walls or private property that has been tagged, report it immediately to the police or property owner. Studies confirm when tagging is reported within 48 hours of it being put up, the chances of it spreading are greatly reduced.
