Interesting Comment

The following appeared as a letter to the Editor in Thursday's Daily News over the signature of Blake McGuffie. Mr. McGuffie makes an interesting point.

When listening to different spokesmen, it is never about the money, yet it does seem that money is what always solves the problem.

Snuneymuxw benefited from estuary industry
Re: 'Complaints are justified' (Daily News, Sept. 20)

While I have considerable sympathy with the Snuneymuxw First Nation in their frustration in dealing with the Nanaimo Port Authority, what seems to be missing in your stories is the fact that the SFN have been collecting lease fees for their riparian rights in the Nanaimo River Estuary from all of the log booming that is and was taking place.
In other words, I believe they have been profiting from the issues for which they are complaining.
