"Quick change" scam artist
hitting central Vancouver
Island
The
Nanaimo RCMP wishes to advise business owners of a "quick change” scam targeting Nanaimo and
Ladysmith businesses. One male is believed to be responsible for a number of
reported incidents.
On
Monday April 18, the Nanaimo RCMP was contacted by a business
owner who reported a male came into their business and made a small purchase
using a $50 Canadian bill. The suspect then asked for a specific combination of
bills as change. While the cashier was getting the requested dominations,
he changed his mind and asked for a different combination. This is done several
times and causes the clerk to become confused. The suspect on several
occasions, walked away with much more than his original
$50.
Ladysmith
RCMP has also reported similar occurrences between April 12th and April
17. Based on the description provided, investigators believe it is
the same person involved. The suspect male is white, approximately 6 ft., 250
pounds, in his late 30's to early 40's with short brown hair and receding
hairline. The male also has a small tattoo on the right side of his
neck.
If
you have information on the identity of this male, please contact the Nanaimo
RCMP at 250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, text 274637,
