Suspected Fentanyl and
other illicit drugs seized in arrest

An ongoing investigation in to the illicit drug trade in Nanaimo, specifically fentanyl, has culminated in the arrest of a 45 year old male and 23 year old female and the seizure of approximately one ounce of suspected fentanyl.

On April 15, 2016, the Nanaimo RCMP Projects Team arrested these two individuals in south Nanaimo and seized one ounce of suspected fentanyl and 36 grams of various illicit drugs which include cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription narcotics, believed to be oxycodone.

45 year old Garnet ADAMS of Nanaimo and 23 year old Kiya BALL of Sidney were both remanded into custody. ADAMS was formally charged with 4 counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the CDSA and count of Possession of a Controlled Substance. ADAMS appeared before a Nanaimo Provincial court judge on Tuesday April 19th and was remanded into custody until May 3rd. BALL was also charged with 4 counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the CDSA, Driving while Prohibited and Obstruction. She was also arrested on two outstanding warrants originating in Sidney. BALL appeared in Nanaimo Provincial court on Monday April 18th and was remanded to April 26th.

The seizure of this amount of suspected fentanyl will have a considerable impact on the sale and distribution of this drug and others in our community. Removing this quantity of this illicit drug from the streets of Nanaimo could potentially save many lives, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
