Dale Schulz - Nanaimo - "As He Sees It" - June 8/16

Lifelong Nanaimo resident, professional artist and illustrator Dale Schulz 'sees' much of Nanaimo many of us simply walk by without giving a second thought.

Through the eyes of an artist the everyday can become almost magical and with a few simple photos of his daily walks, Dale captures and shares some of that magic on his Facebook page.

The following is the most recent example of what Dale sees when he walks about our lovely seaside community many of us just take for granted.

Oh Man! Did I ever take a LOT of photos today Folks!

I like these grey skies for shooting!

First two shots were taken in our yard before Indy and I headed out. One is the little driftwood 'sculpture' that sits beside one of my sheds. Second is our old shed on 'Boot Hill' It looks pretty naked without all my painted 'sign' panels. Just a reminder for me to progress on the next piece of artwork to go up there.

We headed into Harewood where I took a photo of a favourite old garage on 5th Street - and I revisited the little dogwood behind the 711 store on 5th and Bruce.

I got a neat angled shot of St. Peters Roman Catholic Church's Clock Tower - and friend drove by and saw me kneeling in the lawn - later told me he thought I was praying! LOL.

On Commercial Street and Bastion Street downtown I paused to snap a photo of some of my favourite buildings and one of our new rainbow-painted crosswalks.

After coffee on the waterfront I got a picture of Indy and Black Frank together at Maffeo Sutton Park - not the shot I'm hoping for yet; and got a picture of the tidal pools and some newly planted flowers at Swy-a-Lana lagoon. 

I like my 'dramatic' shot of people walking on the waterfront with the Globe Hotel (and behind it the courthouse) looming above.

Commercial Street was busy with students and tourists and the young designers of the 'Parklets' that have been newly installed. I met a wonderful couple from California - Giselle and Dave. They were heading to Ucluelet - safe travels folks!

On our way back home I took a shot of the empty lot on Albert Street that is growing in FAST!; a nice old 50's Massey Ferguson tractor belonging to my friends Mike and Sari on Kennedy Street; and an ‪#‎abandonedchair‬ on Hecate Street. (I posted 2 shots of this because I can't decide which I like best.)

Lastly on the dead-end of Pine Street I found an ‪#‎abandonedcouch‬ in a parking lot and took a shot of one of my favourite old buildings in town at Pine Street and the E&N tracks.
