Five male adults and one adult female have been arrested and a significant amount of stolen property recovered after two search warrants were executed at two Nanaimo residences.

Shortly after midnight on Thursday June 9, the Nanaimo RCMP Street Crimes Unit searched a home in the 400 block of Lambert St. Later that day, a search was then carried out on a residence in the 700 block of Albert St.  18 persons were initially detained with six being arrested on charges relating to the search and recovery of stolen property. Dozens of bicycles, many of which had been disassembled, were recovered along with a projector, electric scooters, laptops, guitars, amplifiers, televisions and diving equipment.  A small quantity of methamphetamine was also found.

Some of the recovered stolen property was from the recent rash of break and enters to local schools. However much of the property stolen from the schools is still outstanding. All of the accused, ranging in age from 21 to 56 were later released on Promises to Appear and are expected to appear in Nanaimo Provincial court in late August.

"Both of these homes have essentially been dumping grounds for criminals with stolen property. As a result they have caused considerable distress to surrounding homes and neighbourhoods. The execution of these search warrants should disrupt the flow of criminal activity and put criminals on notice", said Constable Gary O’Brien, spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.
