No decision made on criminal charges
The
Nanaimo RCMP is investigating an alleged assault of a 15 year old male at a
local high school by three 17 year old students. The incident occurred during
school hours, on the morning of Friday June 3rd.
The incident
was brought to the attention of the RCMP School Liaison Officer assigned to the
school shortly after the incident occurred. As a result of her investigation 3
male students were identified. While early in the investigation, it
appears some disparaging comments may have been posted to a social media site
which culminated in the 15 year old being assaulted. The victim sustained some
bruising and a concussion and was taken to local hospital for treatment and
later released.
“The
Nanaimo RCMP is working in conjunction with school officials to gather all
pertinent facts surrounding the incident. To date, no decision has been
made on criminal charges. We are also monitoring social media sites and engaging
students at the school to ensure no other incidents related to this occur ”,
said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
