Rutherford Rd. & Nelson Rd. Intersection

Public input sought

The City of Nanaimo is seeking public input on two (2) options for intersection upgrades at Rutherford and Nelson Roads, and will be receiving verbal or written feedback until Monday June 27, 2016.

In December 2015, Council directed staff to prepare detailed design drawings and costing for a roundabout and associated road works at the intersection of Rutherford and Nelson Roads. This was identified as the preferred access option for Linley Valley West from an open house in October 2015.

The functional design work is complete, with the process resulting in two (2) possible upgrade options including a multi-lane roundabout or signalized intersection. Each option has distinct functional and financial impacts and public input is being sought to support and refine the recommendation. Measures for speed mitigation and a new multi-use trail along Rutherford Road are included in both options, with potential traffic calming measures on Nelson Road. Detailed information and feedback survey are available at the project website.

Feedback received will be summarized and included in a July 2016 report to Council.

More project information can be found on the city of Nanaimo website HERE.
