May Queen Fires First Official Cannon of the Season (It is LOUD)
May Queen and Party With Local Dignitaries
Under cloudy skies with just the threat of rain, this year's official May Queen Party followed the tradition of firing the first official cannon of the season.
Local dignitaries were on hand to witness the event which was clearly the first time our May Queen has fired the cannon. The noise and smoke seemed more than she anticipated. I hope she was provided with some ear protection, as everyone else plugged their ears, which she of course could not do.
Today (Sunday) is full of fun, family events downtown courtesy fo the Empire Days Society and the Lion's club. There is a pancake breakfast in Diana Krall Plaza, and lots of fun things for the kids, followed by the parade at 1:00 pm and the fireworks tonight at dusk in the inner harbour.
Kudos to the hardworking volunteers who work so hard to make this a fun, family tradition in the beautiful harbour city which marks another summer season in Nanaimo.
